The Five at Five: Thingtesting
4 Mar 2021
The Five at Five is a download of the best things to read, watch, shop, and get inspiration from. This week’s selections have been curated by Jenny Gylander, Founder of Thingtesting.
Jenny initially started Thingtesting as a side project on Instagram, using her background as a venture capitalist to create honest unpaid reviews of new direct to consumer brands. The online directory now features hundreds of beautiful, innovative and exciting brands.
I always read one fiction and one nonfiction book at the same time. I enjoy fiction much more, so I tend to get through those books faster. Right now, I’m reading Samlade Verk by Lydia Sandgren and No Filter by Sarah Frier.
I recently finished Normal People and I’m in that lost phase in-between series (there should be a word for that, right?). I let the Neverthink.tv app on Apple TV curate YouTube clips for me until inspiration for a new series hits me again.
One of the things I miss most from pre-Covid life is thrift shopping in new cities. After watching a lot of home renovation do-it-yourself content on YouTube and TikTok, I got back into thrifting recently and have spent a lot of time in Detroit's second-hand stores around Eastern Market.
Print magazines! I recently signed up for a Readly subscription, but so far digital magazines aren't giving me the inspiration and escapism I get from print. I subscribe to Wired and The Atlantic and nothing beats the feeling of a fresh physical magazine through the mail.
