The Five at Five: Phohm

25 Feb 2021

The Five at Five is a download of the best things to read, watch, shop, and get inspiration from. This week’s selections have been curated by Phoebe Mulrooney, Founder of Phohm who create beautiful and long-lasting floral installations & arrangements. Phoebe is gearing up to the opening of her new store, coming soon in Brighton.

Read
The last three books I’ve read are 'Natives’ by Akala, ’Women Don’t Owe You Pretty’ by Florence Given and ’Sapiens’ by Yuval Noah Harari. I’m not that much of a reader but I’ve been mainly reading non-fiction recently. I usually get about three quarters of the way through a book, then insist on telling everyone what an interesting book I’m reading so that I seem well-read. In actual fact I haven’t even managed to finish any of them. Definitely read these if you haven’t already, but don’t forget to make sure everyone knows you’re reading them ;)

Watch
I’m watching Dix Pour Cent (Call My Agent!) on Netflix. It’s très bien.

Listen
I’m really missing going to gigs & festivals. I can’t wait to see some live music and go dancing when this is all over. When I’m in the studio I listen to a lot of Green Tea Peng, Biig Piig, Little Dragon, Elder Island, Sylan Esso, Thievery Corporation and Nightmares on Wax. When I’m on the move I listen to Mount Kimbie, Shygirl, St Germain and Four Tet. When I’m at home T.rex, Nick Drake, Morcheeba, The S.L.P, Massive Attack and Talking Heads are my most played. It’s a bit of an eclectic mix. I’ve always been a big music fan but no particular genre, just whatever I’m in the mood for at the time.

Shop
I’ve been shopping for interior decor for my new shop – I’m in the process of refurbishing a new space in Brighton so lots of paint and light fixtures. The shop is primarily going to be selling dried flowers but there will also be a lot of antique Indonesian vases, locally made ceramic vases and ornaments. The shop will also be my studio space where I create my larger floral installations. I’ll also be using the space to run workshops where people can come in and create everlasting floral displays. I’m keen for the shop to become a community space that offers more than just a retail experience.

Inspiration
I’ve been saving a lot of interior and styling images on Instagram for inspiration for the new shop. Here’s a few accounts that I’m loving @casagitane @manimoments @imagicasa.be @workshopliving.
