Since the early 1990s, the East Village has transformed from artist-cum-squatter enclave to one of New York City’s most trendy and desirable neighborhoods. Even with an influx of well-heeled residents gobbling up real estate, the East Village hasn’t lost that artistic touch (there are still plenty of galleries and independent boutiques), but now the area around Tompkins Square Park is decidedly upscale.
