Penguin pop-up: the classics and their new community

26 Mar 2019

The act of reading has traditionally been considered a solitary practice, but Penguin are looking to change that with a new pop-up in Shoreditch.

Centred around an exposed brick wall that displays every single Penguin Classic ever created (totalling 1,200), Happy Reading also serves as a hub for talks, walks, workshops, socialising, and more. Visitors are encouraged to browse and buy titles, hang out with fellow book worms or simply spend time reading and relaxing in the bright open space.

The pop-up celebrates the idea that books can bring people together, spark conversation, and encourage debate. Founded on this concept, a range of diverse voices will be given a platform to explore, discuss and challenge the literary canon inside the pop-up through a series of events, from live book clubs to a feminist panel hosted by Refinery29.

Other events include an ‘East End Literary Tour,’ a panel hosted by ‘Black Girls' Book Club,’ a discussion on ‘the tragedy of happiness,’ candle craft workshops, and more.

Visit the pop-up at 133 Bethnal Green Rd from 25th till 31st March 2019.

Book this space for your idea.
