The Throgmorton Restaurant first opened in 1900, with a certain clientele in mind. Found between the Stock Exchange and the Bank of England, these four floors of dark wood, plush fabrics and gilded detailing hosted the City's finest gentlemen and brokers. (For dinner, drinks and to shake on a deal or two.) After 105 years' service, Throgmorton closed its doors - until now.
This is your chance to rent the whole building: launching your idea across four floors of fascinating and varied space. The ground floor has some natural light and used to be a bar - as did the first lower floor, where you'll also find space for a kitchen and room for storage. Downstairs, on the next level, is another space to plumb a kitchen, plus multiple rooms leading off a long corridor. There's also a fourth floor below that which features a well - altogether, there's no space like it.
Every corner nods to this iconic former restaurant's heritage. And though you'll need to revamp and refit much of the space, its gilded history could guide your decor and launch plans.
Unless your look is rough around the edges this space needs a lot of work before reopening with a new idea.
