Bohemian, colourful and largely chain free, Bristol’s Stokes Croft community is where the city’s creative, independent spirit is at its strongest. On the very street that gives the area its name, this large, glass-fronted retail space is ready and waiting for your idea to drop into one of the UK’s hippest neighbourhoods.
Stokes Croft’s independent shops, cafes and galleries are a daytime draw for the area’s arty residents, while its thriving bars and eateries, such as Poco and The Canteen (famed for its Banksy mural), keep it lively come night time. Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days as locals make a day of dining out and browsing the likes of the Vintage Market for antiques, clothes and curios. Regular buses run from the city centre, and Montpelier train station is a 12-minute walk.
You’ll be next door to Stokes Croft Vintage Market, a two-floored treasure trove of retro clothing, furniture and one-off finds. You’ll be over the road from the original Pie Minister restaurant, where they started making their pies way back in 2003.
This isn’t central Bristol, but independent ideas will be welcomed here.
