Famed for hosting the world’s largest antiques market every Saturday, Portobello Road and its side streets are also lined with independent boutiques, vintage shops and places to eat and drink, making it a cool destination for tourists, Londoners and local alike. This large, white-boxed shop to let will place you in the middle of this sought-after street, over the road from local landmark the Electric Cinema.
This area might have lost a bit of its boho charm, but you’ll still see plenty of local colour and character on Portobello Road. The market draws swarms of tourists on Fridays and (especially) Saturdays, while locals tend to stay away. It’s quieter during the week, but you’ll still see some well-heeled West Londoners coming here for coffee and a mooch around the shops – or going to catch a movie at the Electric Cinema, one of the UK’s oldest picture houses. Ladbroke Grove tube is an eight-minute walk away.
You’ll be in between a Red Cross charity shop and Caffè Nero, which does a better trade with tourists at weekends than it does with the local crowd. Opposite are the Electric Cinema, vintage shop Boutique England, tapas bar Pix Pintos and its speakeasy-style cocktail bar, The Confessionals.
