A Little About This Space

Running from Piccadilly Gardens up to Great Ancoats Street, Oldham Street has long cultivated a bohemian reputation. Once flanked by department stores and flagships, in recent years the street has become better known as a home to independent businesses, among them vintage clothing stores, record shops, and comic book outlets, as well as popular pubs. This modern, light-filled studio space, run by a Manchester artist, taps into the street’s hip and dynamic feel, and would be a fit for up-and-coming artists, design studios, and those holding sample sales. Housed in a modern, red-brick development, the street-level shop to let catches eyes with its large windows, and is outfitted with several dividing walls plus shelves for storage.

THE CROWD

Oldham Street is one of the lively Northern Quarter’s major thoroughfares, and has been considered one of Manchester’s top shopping streets for decades. These days, 20-and-30-somethings, art students, and other trend-conscious types frequent the independent businesses in the Affleck’s shopping center; browse the racks at vintage stores like Blue Rinse, Cow Vintage, and Pop Boutique; and get inked up or pierced at Studio 95 or Holier Than Thou. By day, cafes like Fig + Sparrow and the Koffee Pot are popular among neighbourhood freelancers and brunchers, while at night, iconic pubs and music venues like the Castle attract groups of revellers. Oldham Street therefore keeps a steady stream of visitors flowing in throughout the week, but evenings and weekends are reliably busiest. The Manchester Piccadilly tram station is five minutes away, and is also served by numerous bus lines.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS

Just adjacent to the space is Studio 95, an edgy but inviting piercing and tattoo studio. Behind Closed Doors, a basement speakeasy, is just beyond, while the restaurant and bar Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun is on the other side. Across the way is the Fress Restaurant and Bar.

Home Truths

Given the space’s rather limited dimensions, it might not be a fit for brands with lots of stock to showcase—but it’d be an ideal home for those with curated lines or hosting limited-time sample sales.
