The historic Meatpacking District used to be home to NYCs slaughterhouses and packing plants (hence the name). But today it’s less meat market and more of a “fine living emporium. The neighborhood is home to the Gansevoort Hotel, the Standard, high-end retailers like Jeffery, and, of course, one of NYC’s top tourist destinations the High Line.
Just around the corner from these heavily trafficked institutions is this bright and airy space on the cobblestoned Little West 12 that retains some of the area’s meat-centric past. Industrial-chic concrete floors combine with the whitewashed walls and overhead lighting. They compliment the large, corrugated metal awnings on this building and others in the area - originally installed to keep the processing plants shaded and cool.
Located among the cobblestone streets of the original West Village, this space sits right in the middle of the richly detailed old taverns and contemporary fashion and art houses, ensuring foot traffic with is good, but the area retains a hidden treasure feel. Transportation options are plentiful with several train lines including A/C/E and the 1/2/3 a few avenues east.
This is a large space and will need a confident idea to fill it.
