Stoke Newington locals love their largely independent shopping street and vote with their feet; Church Street’s family-friendly eateries and a great selection of homewares and fashion stores enjoy a lot of repeat business. THE CROWD

Although it’s much more monied than it used to be, Stoke Newington has clung onto its bohemian, community vibe, and Church Street is its epicentre; this busy thoroughfare is a destination for this neighbourhood’s many buggy-pushing parents and young professionals. Weekends are the busiest times as locals and other Londoners come here for brunch, a browse around the shops and to check out Abney Public Hall’s regular craft and vintage markets, but weekdays are far from quiet. Stoke Newington station is a 10 minute stroll.
